Gabii sa Kabilin 2015: AboitizLand to Showcase Parian’s Founding

How the enchanting Parian district, captivating to tourists and Cebu residents alike, was founded is a spectacle to be told as AboitizLand once again will participate in Gabii sa Kabilin, the annual heritage night spearheaded by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI).

Gabii sa Kabilin, patterned after the German Lange Nacht de Museen (Long Night of the Museums) is held every last Friday of May. Started in 2007, the event is much anticipated for the opportunity to imbibe Cebu’s rich culture and remarkable history through a one-night tour of its museums and heritage sites.

This year’s Gabii sa Kabilin theme is “The Founding.” AboitizLand will join the historical extravaganza through “Handurawan sa Karaang Sugbo” which will feature a Heritage Show, Food Festival and a Photo Exhibit.

Highlight of Handurawan sa Karaang Sugbo is the Heritage Show which will stage a theatrical play and musical and dance presentations telling the founding of Parian. The show will begin at 6pm on May 29 at the Plaza Parian.

AboitizLand’s participation will also feature a native culinary experience featuring delicacies to be brought in by the AboitizLand partner-communities in Cebu’s various towns and cities.

Moreover, the Kabag-uhan: Now and Then Photo Exhibit will provide a backdrop to the old Parian experience. The Photo Exhibit will showcase photographs of Parian’s storied landscape – from what it looked like within years of its founding as a Chinese settlement to its present glory as one of Cebu’s revered heritage areas. The photos are from the collection of AboitizLand Chief Executive Officer Andoni Aboitiz.
