Forgiveness is Forever

Published

on

“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:21-22

When we became a child of God (we’ve received Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior), it meant that He forgave our sins already through belief on His Son, Jesus. He wiped away the past sins and remembers it no more. Therefore, we shouldn’t remember it either. Forgiveness deletes the sin file from the hard drive. The only thing that is within our control is in dealing with the people that have hurt us. We need to ask God for his help in this. Easily said than done. It’s difficult to forgive somebody when they have immensely hurt us.

Forgiveness releases the bitterness from our soul and begins to heal the hurt. We must remember that our sin has deeply hurt God, yet He forgave and forgives us, ready to restore His relationship with us. We must follow His example or we will suffer to live with a bitter spirit.

“And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Mark 11:25
