Dumaguete City (PNA) — Five students of Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, coming from different disciplines, are now in Japan and Korea for their respective one-year student exchange programs. Three of their counterparts from these countries are also on the Silliman campus already.

Three Silliman students are assigned in Japanese universities: one at the International Christian University in Tokyo: Allison Cruff V F. Ladero (Philosophy III); and two at the Shikoku Gakuin University in Kagawa Ken, Japan: Solimar De Castro (Anthropology II) and Ma. Faye Eloise B. Duran (Entrepreneurship II).

Two are placed at Hannam University in Daejeon, Korea: Stephanie Ria L. Colinco (Psychology III) and Val Amiel Vestil (Mass Communication III), said Mark Raygan Garcia, Director of Information and Publications Office of Silliman University in a media release.

Garcia said two partner universities in Japan and Korea have also flown in their exchange students to Silliman.

Takuya Murakami from Shikoku Gakuin University, who is majoring in Humanities at his home university, is currently enrolled in the Agronomy program in Silliman. Kim Sunmin, who is pursuing Christian Studies at Hannan University, is taking up subjects in Theology.

The placement of exchange students goes through a rigorous process which considers the students’ academic credentials, personality, and ability to adjust to a new culture and environment.

The same coincides with the home university’s academic calendar, and is sustained by a common understanding of mutual support for tuition, on-campus accommodation, and some related expenses, Garcia said. (PNA) LAP/JFP/PR
