ILOILO CITY, June 5 (PIA6) — What makes a school beautiful?

For Barroc Elementary School in Tigbauan, Iloilo, a beautiful school is a place where the pupils, teachers, and parents are working together to create innovations to promote a clean and green environment.

Agnes T. Tantiado, principal I of Barroc Elementary School, said it has been their concern on how to maintain cleanliness in school and how to handle waste materials accumulated daily.

“What I did was to motivate my teachers to make our school beautiful and make use of all of our recyclable materials that are found in our school and in our locality,” she said.

Tantiado said the school, with its approved School Improvement Plan (SIP) implemented its “Byutipul Iskul” project just this year to promote a clean and green environment as well as create an orderly and child-friendly school for the benefit of the learners and other stakeholders.

She said the project was timely and purposeful for it answered the call for recycling and waste reduction program of the government.

“Our school conducted a competition dubbed ‘Harapan Mo, Pagandahin Mo’ in support of the project CGOBS (Clean, Green, Orderly and Beautiful School),” she said.

She said the project was one way to reduce or lessen the problems and burdens of how to handle waste materials.

According to Tantiado, the pupils, teachers and parents are working together to create innovations out of the recyclable materials such as old tires, plastic soda bottles, and water containers, which are available in the community.

“We made use of these waste materials to beautify our school in line with the CGOBS project,” she said.

She said that the officials in barangays Atabayan and Barroc in the municipality of Tigbauan also extended their support to the program by adopting a certain area to clean and beautify.

“The said contest proved how resourceful and innovative the teachers and parents are,” she said.

She said that the school plans to sustain this initiative, which is also in line with the school’s thrust of providing rich learning experiences to the school’s stakeholders.

“This is not only for our own good, for the children but for the good of everybody in the locality,” she added.
