Farm-To-Market Roads

Published

on

When our administration came into office, we committed to improving the roads around Cebu City especially upgrading those in the upland barangays. We acknowledged the need to focus on infrastructure, as it is fundamental to the proper functioning of our city and its constituents. Concrete roads link farmers from their farms to the markets with relative ease, thus increasing their profits and ensuring that they can efficiently respond to the needs of the public. The goal of these projects was not only to make our city more livable but also to invest in agriculture, which would result in more opportunities for farmers in the upland barangays. In fact, farming plays such an integral role in Cebu City’s economy that in 2012, the Department of Agriculture estimated that farmers in Cebu City earn 70 million pesos a year.

In 2012, we turned over road concreting projects to 22 barangays. These projects are located in Barangays Budlaan, Mabini, Pit-os, Binalaw, Agsungot, Guba, Sirao, Paril, Cambinocot, Lusaran, Adlaon, Taptap, Malubog and Carreta in the North District and Barangays Tabunan, Sudlon 1, Buhisan, Toong, Pamutan, Kalunasan and Sinsin in the South District.

In 2015, we made a promise to implement P600 million worth of projects in different mountain barangays. These projects are not limited to road concreting but also include clearing and grubbing, removal of existing asphalt, cement concrete pavement, open lined canal, stone masonry, and the creation of a catch basin.

In our continued efforts to connect all the main roads in the upland barangays, the upland portions of Barangays Kalunasan, Talamban and Guadalupe will be connected, along with further improvements of roads in the mountain barangays of Cambinocot, Guba, Paril, Lusaran, Mabini Agsungot, Pulangbato, Bonbon, Buot Taup, Pamutan, Sapangdaku, Toong, Sudlon II, Tagbao, Tabunan, Pung-ol Sibugay, Babag, Kalunasan, Taptap, Budlaan, San Jose, Binaliw and Adlaon. – Mike
