‘Family Means Nobody Gets Left Behind’

Before her tragic death, Princess Diana once said: “Family is the most important thing in the world.” Reading the quote now, I couldn’t agree more with what the Princess of Wales has once said. Growing up, I’ve always been close to my parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, and a handful of aunts and uncles.

One night, we were scattered in my parents room. My siblings were watching television and I was laying down in bed. My mom has just given birth to my youngest sibling who fell ill.

My parents felt the need to bring her to the hospital. I was 8 at that time and my thoughts were a bit messed up. I didn’t know a lot about hospitals. The only thing that was innocently clear to me at that time was that hospitals were places where people pass away. I didn’t want my little sister to go to such institution, I wanted her to stay home. I wanted her to stay with me.

My mom called her sister to watch over us while we stayed at home. I protested with tears in my eyes. Fortunately, a few days later my mom and dad came home with my baby sister in their arms. We were complete again.

Although nothing drastic happened to anyone in my family, I came to a realization that we depend on each other a lot. As individuals, we are dependent and independent at the same time.

I didn’t know who my little sister was at that time. Sure, I knew her name, birthday, address, and all that but I didn’t know what kind of person she’d become. I didn’t know her on a personal level because she was new to this world, but somehow with one glance she became family.

Each family member is like a different piece of a puzzle, we complete each other. Together, we complete and construct the entire picture. Even if one of us is missing, everything won’t be the same because we’d be barren. I’ve grown up with my family surrounding me. Now, even the slightest change affects me.

From time to time, I find myself complaining because they annoy me and I get irritated or because they stressed me out, but surprisingly I wouldn’t have it another way. God loves us way too much to give us lesser things.

Family is the best thing a person will ever have. They’ll give you everything money can never buy. They’ll give you headaches, they’ll irritate you to no end, but they’ll also love you, support you, and make you laugh when you don’t even want to smile.

A blue alien (Stitch from “Lilo and Stitch”) said this for a reason, “Ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind.”
