DTI Cautions Public vs Fake Christmas Lights

Published

Angeles City (PIA) — Department of Trade and Industry cautioned the public in buying inferior Christmas lights and other electronic display materials.

“Products must have proper labeling and markings such as the Philippine Standards mark for locally made and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) mark for imported ones,” DTI Regional Director Judith Angeles said.

“Our Bureau of Product Standards (BPS) randomly inspects imported commodities for quality and safety before they are allowed to be sold in the market. Electronic products such as Christmas lights are considered mandatory products for certification. Republic Act 7394 mandates that uncertified products be prohibited from being sold or distributed in the market,” Angeles added.

Consumers may view a list of 50 valid ICC certificates issued by BPS at its website- www.bps.dti.gov.ph (CLJD-PIA 3)
