Legazpi City (PNA) — The Department of Trade and Industry has alerted the consuming public not to buy cheap, unsafe and uncertified products, considering the damages that these may cause.

“I encourage consumers to patronize quality products that comply with the standards set by the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) of DTI,” DTI-Bicol Regional Director Jocelyn L.B. Blanco said on Tuesday.

Blanco initiated the destruction recently of uncertified products costing more than PHP200,000 to close the celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month.

These products — which included mostly electrical appliances, bulbs, CFLs, electrical tapes, lighters and Christmas lights — were surrendered by 37 establishments that also paid a total fine of about PHP400,000 for violating the Product Standards Law. (PNA) FFC/FGS/CBD
