DSWD-7 Distributes Family Food Packs to Habagat Affected Families

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VII in coordination with Bohol Governor Arthur Yap, provincial offices, respective Local Chief Executives (LCEs), Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers (MSWDOs) and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (MDRRMOs) has recently distributed 11,000 family food packs to the families affected by the intensified southwest monsoon or Habagat which brought strong winds and isolated rainshowers due to typhoon Hannah.

Most of the affected families are living near the coastal area who were prevented to go fishing as it may put their lives at risk due to the big waves caused by this weather disturbance.

In Bohol province, the municipality of Talibon received 1,900 family food packs on August 8 while the municipality of Getafe received 800 family food packs on August 15.

The DSWD-7 also delivered 1,700 family food packs to the municipality of Buenavista in Bohol.

DSWD-7 also sent 6,600 family foods packs to the eight (8) barangays in Olango Island, of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on August 12. This activity is in coordination with City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan.

The family food packs is an augmentation of the national government through DSWD-7 to the affected local government units in region 7.

Each box of family food pack contains 6 kilos rice, 4 canned sardines, 4 canned meat and 6 sachets 3-in-1 coffee.
DSWD-7 Regional Director Rebecca P. Geamala assures the public that the DSWD is ready to respond to the requests of LGUs for assistance.

“We have enough stockpile of family food packs ready for immediate delivery to the LGUs upon request,” said Director Geamala.
