Recognizing the contribution of a resilient Filipino family in achieving a better future, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VII will culminate its Family Week celebration this year with indigent families on September 30, 2016 at Skyrise  Alpha Building, Cebu City.

About 400 participants are expected to join the half-day event that will be led by the Garay Family of Barangay Can-upao, Jagna, Bohol. The family is this year’s Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya Regional Winner and is among the top five finalists for the national search.

The family composed of Vicente (father), Marissa (mother) together with their seven children Ivy, Mary Rose, Aria Venice, Lee Mark, Vic Jun, Prince Mikko and Vincent Ian will share their experience and best practices before going to Manila to attend the national awarding on October 1 in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, this year’s gathering will feature talks on proper nutrition highlighting Pinggang Pinoy by Melina Cañares, DSWD-7 Nutrition Officer III and Responsible Parenthood by Emmalyn Morada, Family Development Session focal person.

Pinggang Pinoy is a new, easy to understand food guide that uses a familiar food plate model to convey the right food group proportions on a per-meal basis and meet the body’s energy and nutrient needs.

Responsible Parenthood topic will underscore the shared responsibility of the husband and the wife to determine and achieve the desired number, spacing, and timing of their children according to their own family life aspirations, taking into account psychological preparedness, health status, socio-cultural, and economic concerns.

After the discussions, there will be fun games for the family.

This year’s family week celebration carries the theme “Matatag na Pamilya, Maunlad na Bukas.”

Last September 24, DSWD-7 spearheaded the interagency family day celebration at Plaza Independecia that was attended by partner government agencies, civil society organizations, non-government organizations and agencies.
