DPWH to Repair Road in Upland Cebu City Village Destroyed by Landslide

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will help the Cebu City government in repairing a road in the mountain barangay of Sirao which was damaged by a landslide on Monday.

DPWH Cebu City District Engineer Nicomedes Leonor said that although the road was not a national road, they decided to help the city with the repairs after Rep. Raul del Mar (Cebu City, north district) sought their help.

Leonor and del Mar went to the site Friday to inspect the damage caused by the landslide.

Leonor said the DPWH Cebu City District Engineering Office provided heavy equipment and manpower for the civil works in the area starting Saturday until Monday.

Once completed, motorists may pass through the road again, said Leonor.

As this developed, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has asked the owners of the lot in Sitio Garahe, Barangay Busay, which was affected by the landslide last Wednesday, to donate the lot to the city.

Since the area is private property, Osmeña said they can only do limited repair.

But as soon as the lot is donated to the city, Osmena said the Department of Engineering and Public Works can fix the riprap to prevent another landslide in the area. (PNA)RMA/EB/RSM
