Officials and employees of the Department of Tourism (DOT) 7 are mourning the unexpected passing away of their new regional director, Catalino “Butch” Chan III.

Chan passed away on Thursday afternoon at the Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu City after suffering a stroke. He was 62.

Judy Gabato, DOT 7 chief tourism operations officer, said Chan was a fatherly figure and a positive leader.

Gabato said that even with his brief stint as DOT regional director, he was already known for his light-hearted demeanor when dealing with his staff.

Chan assumed as DT 7 director in January this year, but he has been with the DOT for eleven years serving in Northern Mindanao.

Gabato said they will miss Chan because of his positive handling of the employees.

Chan’s remains, which are at the St. Peter Memorial Chapel in Imus, Cebu City, will be brought to Cagayan de Oro on Sunday, where he will lie in state until March 21.

From Cagayan de Oro City, his remains will be flown to Mambajao, Camiguin, on March 22, where he will be buried in the family cemetery on March 24. (PNA)
