DOST’s value adding technology for agri products are now available in OrMin demo farm.

Oriental Mindoro farmers can now visit the Province’s demo farm in Victoria town to check out a technology that raises product quality and help boost incomes as well.

The Provincial Science and Technology Center – Oriental Mindoro recently facilitated and installed a spray dryer used for food processing at the provincial demo farm located at Barangay Merit.

PSTC Oriental Mindoro Director Jesse Pine said spray dryer converts liquid into powder.

“This technological intervention aims to capacitate local farmers in producing value-added products through utilization of abundant resources in Oriental Mindoro,” Pine said.

The province is well-known for its Calamansi orchards and juices.

Aside from calamansi, the spray dryer also process extracts from coconut, nipa or mango .

“The provision of the machine is the answered solution to the common problems of farmers in Oriental Mindoro especially during the time of calamity where most raw products, especially fruits and other vegetables could not be transported, thereby leading the products rotten and lose on the part of the farmers,” Pine added.

The Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro, Soyuz Food, Inc.,the and Pakyas Rural Improvement Cooperative (PARIC) collaborated with DOST-Mimaropa on this Spray Dryer project. (LTC/ZCG/DOST-OrMin)
