DOH Forbids Smoking and Drinks For Heart’s Safety

Smoking and sweeten drinks are absolutely forbidden by health and experts to anybody who wants to maintain good and healthy heart.

This was thoroughly explained by Dr.Jeannette Pauline Cortes, head of non-communicable section of the Department of Health (DOH)7 during the Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO) weekly forum.

Cortes said that cigarettes contain 7000 chemicals which will pollute human body’s cells and blocked the passage of blood through the artery connecting the heart.

The DOH doctor said once blood supply is absent into the heart, “that’s the end of everything”, Cortes told.

“The same will happen if an individual is always taking sweeten drinks, “because its sweet contents would stick inside the small cells connecting the heart where supply of blood passes through and once it is blocked by the sodium contents of drinks, it is the end of everything,” she added.

What Cortes advised to everybody is to properly take good care of your hearts, one of the most significant parts of the human body.

Cortez advise was also in conjunction with the Philippine Hearts Association (PHA) adopted formula on 5-2-1-0-0, a much needed way to maintain a healthy heart.

Dr. Carolyn Fermin, president of Philippine Heart Association Cebu (PHAC) Chapter told Cebu media men during the recent Tapok-Tapok sa Cebu Media, that the adoption of this formula has proven effective so far in the field of medicine.

She said 5 stands for 5 serving of fruits and vegetables everyday, 2 for only two hours limitations facing television or computers a day, 1 for a one hour of moderate daily exercise daily, 0 for no smoking, and 0 for no sweeten drinks.

According to Fermin, if this formula will be followed, a deadly heart attack and all cardiovascular diseases are surely avoided.

Also in the same forum, Malyn Fernandez, health lifestyle program coordinator of DOH-7 said that bad cholesterol is also one of the culprits in heart diseases.

High cholesterol level inside the body usually can be attributed to high fatty diets which control blood distribution to the human heart.

“So to avoid heart disease, everybody must not be abusive to his heart, by practicing a good habit of daily exercise, eat proper foods, have a seven hours of sleep every night, and strictly follow the PHAC formula,” she said.
