DepEd-Cebu to Build More Classrooms This Year

Following the upsurge of students in public schools, the Department of Education (DepEd) Cebu assured to build more classrooms this year.

Jeremy Denampo, DepEd-Cebu’s administration officer 5, said the ideal classroom-pupil ratio is 1:45, and they want to keep it that way. This school year, DepEd-Cebu noted a 2% increase from an estimated 687,000 enrollees for elementary and kindergarten levels, and 357,000 for high school in Cebu last year. The increase in student population means additional classrooms to accommodate this increase, said Denampo.

This is why at least 213 classrooms are planned to be constructed all over the province within the year, he said. The department has also allocated P20 million for school rehabilitation. He said they also expect the local government units to support them in providing a “conducive learning environment” to the school children.
