Death Toll Now At 105

The death toll resulting from the tragic collision of MV St. Thomas Aquinas and MV Sulpicio Express Siete last August 16, off lawis ledge in Talisay City now reached 105, Philippine Coast Guard said.

Philippine Navy spokesperson Lt. Cmdr. Gregory Fabic on Saturday said the bodies included those of two adult females and a young girl that was recovered last Saturday. He said technical divers have recovered the bodies at around 3:39 p.m. Saturday inside the sunken MV Saint Thomas Aquinas 1.

As of September 1, the Coast Guard said there are more cadavers recovered and added that 32 are still missing.

Fabic said in a report on Saturday that around 36 passengers and crew members are still missing and remain unaccounted for. The MV Saint Thomas Aquinas 1 sank after colliding with the MV Sulpicio Express 7. The tragic incident resulted to the oil slick that prompted the town of Cordova to declare a state of calamity.
