Davide Empowers LGUs

To empower the local government units (LGU) in realizing their various programs, the Cebu Provincial Government has disbursed at least P747 million in financial assistance in the last two and a half years to fulfill its mission of providing “Kalambuan sa Matag Sugbuanon.”

This is on top of the projects, which were implemented by frontline departments of the province as well as programs funded by the national government and other foreign financial institutions like the World Bank.

The financial assistance disbursements cover from the middle of 2013 to December 2015.

Among the seven districts of Cebu, the fifth district topped the list of recipients amounting to P230.4 million. It was followed by the second district with P2012.2 million; third district is P129.1 million, sixth district is P748 M; fourth district is P66.2 million.

In the fifth district, Poro and Pilar, both towns of Camotes Island, are among the biggest beneficiaries of financial aid with P27.3 and P24.1 million respectively. Sogod, which placed second, got P26.3 million.

Projects undertaken in Pilar included road rehabilitation and concreting, including its circumferential freeway worth P15 million It also received P3 million to boost the repairs of roads which were damaged by typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

In Poro, the bulk of the financial assistance went to infrastructure and countryside development projects. Road and bridge repair totaled P4.9 million. Also, the town got P2 million for the rehabilitation and expansion of its municipal building; P3M for reclamation project; P2.5M for heavy equipment and P2M for public market renovation.

Other major projects

In Tuburan, the Capitol provided P15 million for the concreting of a portion of the farm to market road of the Alegria-Cabangcalan. At least P9 million was also downloaded to the municipality for the same type of work for Kabangkalan and Cogon-Alegria roads.

Recognizing its value in the economic development and tourism of northern Cebu, the Capitol contributed P15 million for the renovation of Polambato port in Bogo City.

Bogo also received a P7 million assistance for road opening of relocation sites and other infrastructure projects.

In Consolacion, two major projects received financial support: The concreting of Sacsac road (P6 million); construction of a drainage system and repair of the Jugan-Tayod road (P5 million).

To unclog its major thoroughfares, the Cebu province provided funds for road improvements among others in Cordova especially the construction of the P8-million coastal road, which eased the fishermen in transporting their catch.

Waterworks systems

Rehabilitation and construction of waterworks systems in various towns also got assistance from Capitol. Alcoy received P5 million for the project; Santander, P3.7M; Carcar City, P1.5M; Tabuelan, P3M; Sogod, P3.5M; Tudela P3M.

Aside from financial assistance, the province’s frontline departments also implemented their projects in line with Gov. Hilario Davide and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale’s six-key agenda. With health topping the six key agenda, the Capitol has spent at least P704 million for the province-operated hospitals’operational expenses.
