The Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) on Tuesday ordered the arrest of movie director Carlo J. Caparas for the tax evasion case filed against him by the Department of Justice (DOJ) last April.

The CTA Second Division issued a warrant of arrest on the so-called national artist for alleged violation of the National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC) for failure to file his Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the years 2008 and 2009.

The 57-year-old director was allowed to post a bailbond of Php40,000 for his temporary liberty.

The CTA found probable cause to issue the warrant of arrest against Caparas.

Caparas is under trial for his alleged non-filing of Value-Added Tax (VAT) returns from 2006 to 2009.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has earlier sued Caparas for a total tax deficiency of more than Php 100 million. (PNA) RMA/PTR
