Comelec Says 97.38% of Registered Voters in Iloilo City Have Biometrics
Iloilo City (PNA) — Some 97.38 percent of the registered voters in Iloilo City have biometrics, making them eligible to vote in the 2016 local and national elections.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec), however, has to delist in its roster of voters the remaining 2.62 percent equivalent to around 6, 716 individuals for lack of biometrics data.
Iloilo City has 256, 059 registered voters following the October 19 deliberation of the Election Registration Board (ERB), according to city elections assistant officer Jonathan Sayno.
The deliberation covered those that were registered until September 30, 2015.
Republic Act 10367 mandates that all registered voters must have their biometrics data captured or face the risk of not being able to cast votes in next year’s elections.
With the delisting, Sayno said the city has around 249, 343 eligible to vote registered voters as of October 19, this year.
The figure is higher when compared with the 2013 registered voters of around 246,000. (PNA) FPV/LOR/PGLENA/CBF
