People who wanted to travel to China will soon have a direct flight from Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to the City of Chengdu in China.

GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) and MCIA proudly welcome the newest service of Xiamen Air.

The aircraft is a 183-seater boeing 737-800. One hundred sixty one (161) of it are the economy class seats while the remaining 22 are for business class passengers.

Xiamen Air will have its maiden flight from Chengdu-Cebu on Thursday, June 27, 2019.

“We are glad to welcome Xiamen Air’s newest direct service to Chengdu, one of China’s busiest and economically-robust cities. Through this partnership with Xiamen Air, we aim to achieve a common goal which is to increase connectivity between Cebu to international destinations,” said Louie Ferrer, GMCAC president.

It was known that there was a previous Chengdu-Cebu route but it was open only during the Chinese peak season travel only.

Now, Xiamen Air will fly the Chengdu-Cebu route (vice-versa) every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The first flight from Chengdu is MF flight 8683 and will depart at 6:30 a.m.

Members of the MCIA will welcome its first 169 passengers the moment it arrives in Cebu at 10:45 a.m. by conducting a water cannon salute.

Meanwhile, MF flight 8683 will travel back to Chengdu at 7:10 p.m.

“The launching of the Chengdu service is in line with Xiamen Air’s plan to open more routes between the Philippines and China, especially in Cebu and Chengdu as these two major cities have huge tourist markets and are internationally known for its tourism destinations and upbeat economic activities,” said Bruce Gong, Xiamen Air Cebu station manager.

Meanwhile, MCIA is also connected to other major destinations in China like Guangzhou, Chongqing, Fuzhou, Kunming, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xiamen. (MLC)
