Central Visayas Cops Tape Gun Muzzles in Anti-indiscriminate Firing Drive

Policemen in Central Visayas taped the muzzles of their firearms Monday as part of their campaign against indiscriminate firing during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Manuel Gaerlan, who led the taping in Camp Sergio Osmeña in Cebu City, encouraged the public to use their cell phones and social media in capturing cops who indiscriminately use their guns.

Gaerlan also warned the civilian gun owners not to use their firearms instead of firecrackers.

“If you want to fire your gun, go to a firing range and shoot all you want,” said Gaerlan.

He said PRO 7 is on heightened alert because of the holiday season when the public will flock to commercial establishments for the Christmas and New Year rush.

PRO 7 will also intensify their campaign against establishments selling firecrackers inside malls.

The Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) 7 also noted a dip in the petty crimes in the last three months compared to the same period last year.

Senior Inspector Marylou Cuizon of RIDMD 7 said they recorded 2,333 cases in September, October and November this year, compared to the 3,093 cases recorded in the same period in 2014. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
