The 15th day of the 8th lunar month marks the second grandest festival in China after the Chinese New Year which is traditionally called the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon festival, to when the moon is at its roundest and brightest.

Various legends are associated with the festival. One of the most popular would be the mooncakes being used during the Mongol dynasty where messages were inserted into it so that families were informed of the rebellion. The message supposedly read “kill the Mongols on the 15th of 8th lunar moon”. Furthermore, is also known as the end of the summer harvest to which the farmers of China celebrates their thankfulness for heaven’s bounty.
