All Cebuanos are encouraged to join the “12th Moonwalk: A Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness” on October 3, 2015, Saturday, 5:30 p.m.

Assembly time is 5 p.m. at Plaza Sugbo (infront of Cebu City Hall). Participants are encourage to wear pink.

The event’s pre-event program at Plaza Sugbo will have testimonies of breast cancer survivors. A “Celebrate Life with Mega Cebu” program at Plaza Independencia will immediately follow after the walk.

Moonwalk: A Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness is a unique collective advocacy campaign focused on early screening and detection of breast cancer through monthly breast self-examination and mammography.

With 657 deaths or 49 percent out of the 1,349 cases recorded in 2003-2007, the Cebu population-based Cancer Registry of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc.-Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center (RAFI-EJACC) identified breast cancer as the leading cause of death among Cebuano women.

For this reason, the fight against the disease, which affects the lives of Cebuano women and their families, continues through this annual advocacy walk, which is held every full moon of October in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This year’s Moonwalk is being supported by the Mega Cebu campaign.

Carol Ballesteros, Mega Cebu communication and stakeholders’ relationship manager, said they decided to collaborate with RAFI-EJACC in holding Moonwalk because they, too, want to fight cancer.

“Mega Cebu promotes wholesome, advanced, vibrant, equitable, and sustainable Cebu so everybody is part of it. Mega Cebu promotes good health and cancer is detrimental to health, we are supporting Moonwalk because cancer patients are part of Mega Cebu,” she said.

She also said “all Club Cebu members will converge during the Moonwalk as participants.” This is aside from Mega Cebu being the one that provided the speaker during the Plaza Independencia program.

“Overall, we are there to help EJACC, in the spirit of collaboration. Moonwalk is on October 3, and (this day) is the awards night for Mega Cebu, so we decided to also be part of Moonwalk,” she added.

The event is organized by RAFI-EJACC in partnership with the Cebu City Government through the Task Force Cancer of Cebu City, Department of Health 7, Destiny Medical Fund Incorporated, Goldilocks, Philippine Spring Water Resources Inc., Alcordo Advertising, Cebu Cancer Fight Incorporated, I CAN SERVE Foundation, and CAN with GOD.
