Cebuano coach and triathlete John Philip Dueñas and Motor Ace Racing teammate Rosalito Albina on Wednesday started their training at the facilities of Thanyapura Sports Hotel in Thailand.

Dueñas and Albina are under the tutelage of Ironman world champion Chris McCormack.

The two were sent by Motor Ace Philippines, to train at the Thanyapura Sports Hotel, which is considered as one of the best sports facilities and coaching in the world.

The triathlon program of Thanyapura Sports Hotel is led by Australian McCormack, a two-time winner of Ironman World Championships and former champion of ITU World Championships, ITU World Cup and ITU World Long Distance Championships.

Dueñas said they had a swim and bike test and a run workout stamina test on Wednesday.

“They taught us swim techniques and they made some corrective exercise. Then, we had the bike test and the functional threshold power test. We found out the certain power release we need for our race, Duenas said.

Dueñas, the Filipino elite silver medalist of the 2015 Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines, said they are also set to do a stamina work out test to check to improve the race stamina and to set a corresponding workout.

Dueñas, who will be training in Thailand until May 15, is thankful to his team for giving him the chance to train in a top facility.

“The best part about this experience is being able to travel. We seek to learn about our sport but we also learn the different culture, tradition and approach in coaching or in training that is being offered here,” he said. (PNA) LAP/EB/MP/EBP
