With the country now under the “new normal” just like the rest of the world, the Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu (HRRAC) sees recovery in tourism that will most likely to effect by the end of the first quarter of the year 2021.

HRRAC President Carlo Suarez admitted that hotel occupancy is still low compared to the pre-pandemic era despite the resumption of hotel operations. However, weekend occupancy improved as many people are booking for “weekend staycations.”

Meanwhile, atleast 90% of HRRAC’s members hotel have already resumed operations and about 95% have since re-opened.

Suarez added that strict health and safety protocols are still being implemented in their hotels.

“For as long as we follow the minimum health standards, we will overcome the virus. And Cebu is ready to welcome tourists,” Suarez said.

Meanwhile, HRRAC is also expecting low occupancy during the Sinulog Festival in January since the traditional celebration is suspended by the Cebu City Government. (MLC)
