Cebu Pacific Apologizes for Plane Mishap

On Monday night, Cebu Pacific president and chief executive officer Lance Gokongwei apologized for the faulty landing of Flight 5J-971 that caused the blocking of the international gateway in Davao International Airport and left thousands of passengers stranded.

The company offered to transport stranded passengers from Davao to General Santos with no additional charges.

It has been reported that Gokongwei said in an interview on ANC Business Nightly that the mishap is “most unfortunate”.

An order has been released by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to conduct an investigation on the faulty landing of Flight 5J-971.

The incident which resulted the blocking of the runway prompted its closure. It affected not only the flights of Cebu Pacific, but also Philippine Airlines, Zest Air, Air Philippines, Sea Air, and Silk Air.

According to CAAP, Cebu Pacific has until Tuesday to remove their aircraft.

All 165 passengers, including pilot Capt. Antonio Roel Oropesa and co-pilot Capt. Edwin Perello and four crew who were aboard the aircraft that skidded of Davao runway, were not hurt.
