The Cebu City government on Wednesday deployed heavy equipment to the city’s mountain villages to clear landslides which blocked some roads.

The incessant rains in the past few days have triggered landslides in the city’s mountain villages, including Barangay Budlaan ang Pulangbato.

Nagiel Bañacia of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said boulders have blocked portions of the road in Sitio Tak-an in Budlaan, Sitio Tanay in Pulangbato, including the boundary between Agsungot and Binaliw.

Bañacia said a team has been deployed in the area to help clear the road which is landslide prone.

The rains also caused some rivers in Cebu to overflow and inundate some lowland villages.

Flooding was reported on Wednesday in one village in Consolacion town, some 19 kilometers from Cebu City, after a river in the area overflowed.

But the affected residents in Barangay Nangka, Consolacion, refused to evacuate as the evacuation site is far from the area and they do not want to leave their belongings.

In Mandaue City, some 200 families were evacuated at about midnight on Tuesday after the banks of the Butuanon River overflowed.

They were transported to a temporary shlter, but they returned to their homes Wednesday after the flood subsided, said Feliex suico Sr., head of Bantay Mandaue. (PNA)LAP/EB/EDS
