Cebu City, Province among 3rd Most Competitive in PHL

(PIA) — The province of Cebu has been awarded as one of the Top 3 Most Competitive Provinces in the Philippines by the National Competitiveness Council (NCC).

Gov. Hilario P. Davide III accepted the award during the ceremonies held by NCC at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila recently.

In a statement released by Cebu Provincial Information Office, Gov. Davide was quoted as saying: “Nalipay tag dako sa recognition nga gihatag sa province of Cebu sa NCCP. We thank God for this and we dedicate this award to the people of Cebu. And we accept this recognition as a challenge to do more and better.”

The Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development.

According to the NCCP website, the Cities and municipalities are ranked on their competitiveness based on an overall competitiveness score.

The overall competitiveness score is the sum of scores on three main pillars which pool data from several sub-indicators.

The three main pillars are: economic dynamism, government efficiency and infrastructure. Scores are determined by the values of the actual data, as well as the completeness of the submitted data.

The higher the score of a city or municipality, the more competitive it is.

The two other provinces named as most competitive by NCC are Davao del Sur and Misamis Oriental.

Meanwhile, Cebu City was also named third most competitive city for highly urbanized cities category. (rmn/PIA7-Cebu/Ethel Natera, Cebu PIO)
