Cebu City Evacuated 7, 430 Families

Cebu City government on Sunday reported that around 7, 430 families, or 36, 088 individuals has been evacuated during the wake of Typhoon Ruby.

Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama last week enforced a pre-emptive evacuation for residents situated along the coastal barangays including those who are living beside rivers and creeks.

Typhoon Ruby hit land mass Saturday at around 9:30 in the evening at Dolores, Eastern Samar with maximum winds at 175 kilometers per hour. PAGASA reported that a storm surge brought about by typhoon Ruby could reach 4-7 feet, threatening residents living along coastal areas.

City of Naga

On Sunday, the City of Naga said they have evacuated around 2, 000 families in its evacuation centers as precaution for Ruby’s landfall.

Gary Cabotaje, Head of Naga Public Information office (PIO), said they have designated 10 evacuation centers especially for residents living in “critical” areas like barangay Balirong, Anas, Kantaw-an, and those living near Tandang river.

Cabotaje said they have prepared 150 sacks of rice for the evacuees.

As of Sunday, these residents have been advised to stay in the centers until the LGU would permit them to go back home.

Casualties

As of 6 am Monday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported 2 casualties: one died after being electrocuted, the other died due to hypothermia.

In Medellin Cebu, one was reported missing.

In Iloilo, two were reported dead while 3 people on a motorboat went missing on Sunday.

In Bogo City, Cebu, an estimated 3000-7000 residents were reportedly evacuated since Sunday.

On Sunday, the province of Masbate has been placed under State of Calamity.
