Cebu City Anti-drug Body Wants Random Testing for Public Transport Drivers

The Cebu City Office on Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) wants all drivers of public transportation in the city to undergo random drug testing.

Cosap head, Dr. Alice Utlang, said she will present the plan during the meeting with the members of Cebu City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) on April 16.

The meeting, she said, will be attended by the Cebu City Council’s chairman of its committee on peace and order, Councilor Nestor Archival.

Utlang said it would be better if the requirement would be made into an ordinance.

She said that an ordinance will help improve the peace and order concern in different barangays.

Last month, the Regional Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (RAIDSOFT) 7 reported that nine barangays in the city are affected seriously by illegal drugs, including Kamagayan, T. Padilla, Lorega, Barrio Luz, Pit-os, Pulang Bato, Talamban, Bacayan, and Duljo Fatima.

Cebu City Police Office Acting Director Senior Superintendent, Marciano Batiancela Jr., also said Barangays Pasil, Ermita, and Calamba are in the list.

Utlang suggested that the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 include a drug test as condition in getting and renewing a driver’s license. (PNA) FFC/EB/SSC
