Cebu Provincial Administrator Mark Tolentino Wednesday declared there will be no work for Cebu Provincial Government employees on Friday, January 29.

Tolentino said this will pave the way for the preparation of the 4 p.m. mass in front of the Cebu Capitol on Friday for the ongoing 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC).

A portion of Osmena Blvd. in front of the Cebu Capitol building until the intersection near the Fuente Osmena will be closed to vehicular traffic starting 1 p.m. Friday.

IEC organizers said they will have to prepare the place for the mass, including the arrangement of chairs.

The 4 p.m. mass will be followed by a procession from the Cebu Capitol to the Plaza Independencia near the Cebu port area.

Roads around the Plaza Independencia will also be closed to vehicular traffic, Cebu City transportation officials said.

On Thursday, half of the old Mandaue-Mactan Bridge going to Lapu-Lapu City will be closed to vehicles from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the Pilgrim Walk, which will start at 4 p.m.

Some 5,000 youth delegates are expected to use the bridge when they walk from Hoopsdome in Lapu-Lapu City to the Mandani Bay project site in Mandaue City where they will hold a vigil until 8 a.m. Friday. (PNA) LAP/EB/EDS
