The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) will finally open this April 27, and the good news is that motorcycles with engines 125cc and above can now traverse the expressway.

The said opening of CCLEX also falls on the 501st celebration of “Kadaugan sa Mactan” which marks the victory of Lapulapu over the Spanish fleet of Ferdinand Magellan.

The opening of the 8.9 km expressway will be graced by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) President and General Manager Allan Alfon said in a press release that motorcycles 125cc and up are now allowed on the expressway.

“We are happy to finally announce that motorcycles below 400cc will be allowed on the CCLEX. This is to make this facility more inclusive and accessible to residents and answer a strong clamor from motorcycle users,” said Alfon.

Alfon also reminded motorists including motorcycle owners to have the CCLEX RFID installed on their vehicles as the electronic and automated toll collection will start on June this year.

However, installations of RFIDs for motorcycles 125cc to 399cc will soon be announced.

CCLEX Bridge Management Board (BMB) passed the resolution in February this year to allow motorcycles 125cc to 399cc to pass the expressway.

The BMB also acknowledged the fact that motorcycles are the preferred mode of transportation in Cebu.

According to Land Transportation Office 7, there are a total of 433,771 registered motorcycles below 400cc in the entirety of Cebu.

A study made by the University of San Carlos (USC) revealed that motorcycle riders are willing to pay the toll fee.

Also part of the resolution is to deploy a 24/7 traffic patrol crew in CCLEX to enforce traffic laws as well as respond to emergencies.

Last year, Alfon also announced that both sides of CCLEX will have 1.5-meter dedicated pedestrian and bicycle lanes that can be used for free. (ASC)
