To provide proper dental health care for public school students in Taguig City, Mayor Lani Cayetano on Wednesday turned over new dental equipment to the Ususan Elementary School and other city government-run schools in the city.

Cayetano said that this is part of Taguig’s celebration of Dental Health Month this February as well as of the project launched by the Department of Education (DepEd) Taguig and Pateros (TaPat) Division, “Dental Improvement and Medical Program for Local Education” in partnership with the city government of Taguig.

She said students can now visit their clinics to avail of various dental services, including basic dental preventive treatment such as oral prophylaxis, cavity fluoride varnish application, pit and fissure sealant, or rehabilitation services such as extraction and tooth filling.

Cayetano, together with the city councilors and school officials, led the turnover of 13 more dental chairs and equipment to public elementary and secondary schools in the city.

These dental equipment include Intraoral Camera and Monitor, Portable Light Care Unit, Autoclave, Ultrasonic Scaler, Ultrasonic Cleaner, Camera and Cabinet.

According to Cayetano, they want to provide every public school in the city with its own dental clinic and better equipment.

For his part, Dr. George Tizon, Chief Supervisor for School Governance and Operation, said the local government is now in the forefront of educating the students on the importance of proper tooth-brushing technique, good oral hygiene and proper nutrition.

Tizon said that dental services are now accessible in all 34 public schools in the city, with 16 locally-hired school dentists who will teach and guide the children on the importance of keeping their teeth clean and healthy. (PNA) SCS/CLTC/Michelle Favor Marasigan/MFM (OJT)
