While the Casa Gorordo Museum is being upgraded and would not be open to guest, fun activities are still in store for visitors and guests of the Gabii Sa Kabilin this Friday, May 29.

It would still be offering interactive outdoor activities that will include role plays on traditional courtship; a trivia contest on Cebu and music, natural sites and other aspects of Cebu’s culture; a demonstration of the Sinug, a traditional religious dance ritual for the Holy Child; and a real-life portrayal of what it was like to live in the old Parian. All these would take place from six p.m. to midnight at the museum’s old garage and front lawn.

There will also be an exhibit on the memorabilia of prominent families from Parian in the museum’s outdoor garage.

Guests will also be a able to participate in a short video contest, wherein they would submit a 30-second courtship scene set in the Spanish colonial period on the suitor’ corner of the Casa Gorordo Museum. Costumes and a prepared guide would be provided by the museum for the contest.

The videos will be uploaded to the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) Facebook page and the video with the most likes will win cash prizes. For the entry to be valid, participants must like the RAFI page on Facebook and or follow @rafiorgph on Twitter.

For those craving for a fix of Filipino cuisine, there will be food available at affordable prices.

These activities are aimed to promote better understanding and appreciation of the character and value of Parian as a heritage district; furthermore, this will highlight Casa Gorordo’s significance as a Cebuano heritage.

Gabii sa Kabilin (Night of Heritage) is an annual event organized by RAFI that aims to encourage the public to visit museums and understand their role as venue for cultural understanding and fun dynamic learning.

It is the only cultural event of its kind in Asia that is intended as culminating activity in the observance of May as National Heritage Month and the day as International Museum Day. (Christian Jay Quilo and Alexandra Muñoz, STC Mass Comm Interns)
