More than 500 residents from five mountain barangays of Argao town received free medical services from the Cebu provincial government held last Friday.

Hosted by Barangay Anajao, the other villages that benefited from the province’s medical and dental services were Lengigon, Tulang, Mopeller and Apo.

Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magaple graced the event together with Congressman Wilfredo Caminero and Provincial Board member Jose Mari “Tata” Salvador, both representatives of the second district.

Services rendered by Capitol included medical consultations, dental extraction, distribution of medicines, haircut for children, cholesterol and glucose test and feeding program.

Under Davide’s six-key development agenda, health and social services are on top of the list.

“We see the difficulty of some patients living in the mountain going to the city or to the town center to seek these medical services. So, we come up with this program,” the governor said.

Milagrosa Fernandez, 52, who is suffering from hypertension, was grateful that she would no longer come down from the mountain to have his blood pressure checked.

“Nagpakanaba gyud diay sila namo kay ni anhi gyud sila dinhi. Mas misamot akong kalipay ka na pay libre nga tambal sa akong high blood,” she said.

Anajao, which served as the venue for the medical mission that catered to the five clustered barangays, is 18 kilometers away from the national road.

Ledia Panerio, 73, was also thankful for the services, saying that it enabled her to save the meager income she spent for her hypertensive medicine.

Aside from Capitol medical personnel, the Armed Forces’ Central Command also sent medical staff, including three doctors as well as their dental bus to the medical mission.
