About 1,280 senior citizens of 15 barangays in Consolacion, received food packs each which consist of canned goods, noodles and milk through the provincial government’s Halad alang kang Lolo ug Lola program on May 5 and 7.

Held consecutively in Consolacion’s barangay covered courts, the distribution of goods was led by Cebu Vice-governor Agnes Magpale, Municipal councilors Julius Alegado and Benjamin Tibon and Association of Barangay Council (ABC) president Marilou Casul.

Barangay captains and officials were also around to supervise the distribution to their constituents.

The distribution were done in barangays Cabangahan, Sacsac, Casili, Poblacion Occidental, Poblacion Oriental, Tolotolo, Danglag, Cansaga, Pitogo, Lamac, Tilhaong, Jugan, Tayud, Nangka and Tugbungan.

A brief program preceded the distribution which gave the provincial and municipal personalities the chance to express their short and inspiring messages that received a warm applause from the seniors.

Cansaga barangay chief Peter Cabadilla expressed his gratitude to Governor Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale for extending provincial government programs and projects to their constituents.

“Magpasalamat gyud kita kanila, sa ilang gugma og tinu-oray nga serbisyo. Bisan ug gamay pero makalipay kaayo. Ug ang pinaka-importante, ang presensya sa mga dagkong opisyales sa probinsya nga mobisita gayud sa mga barangay,” Cabadilla said.

More benefits

The provincial government recognizes senior citizens as an important part of the community and assured to give full support and continues to find proactive ways to assist them.

Magpale reminded barangay officials to invite elderly persons who are not yet registered to register in their respective barangay or local government units for them to have an updated and exact list of members.

The said membership enables seniors to avail of benefits such as cash, healthcare and rehabilitation assistance and other elderly programs.

Within this year, the provincial government will start extending financial assistance for senior citizens in its component cities and municipalities.

Board Member Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba, chairman of the PB Committee on Senior Citizens Affairs said the budgeting will follow once the list will be finalized and then the province will start the distribution of cash assistance.

The Provincial Senior Citizen Council initially has set aside P2.5 million for cash assistance and will be sourced out from the 2015 allocation and supplemental budget. (Cebu Provincial Government/ Heart Rizarri)
