For a job well done, 279 police operatives from the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) received cash rewards from the Capitol during the awarding ceremony organized by the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office on Thursday, Dec. 14.

The total cash reward given to the law enforcers totalled P2.59 million.

“Every day, you risk your lives in service to your communities,” said Gov. Hilario P. Davide III as he thanked the awardees for their dedication and hardwork in maintaining the peace and order in the province.

CPADAO head Carmen Remedios Durano considers law enforcement as a serious and noble task.

Dubbed as “Operation Lawmen, Rewards and Incentives,” Davide and Durano led the distributed of the cash reward to the operatives from 17 CPPO units/stations and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), who conducted buy-busts from as early as January 2017 up to October 2018.

The Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) got the biggest award, with a total of P461,000 cash, shared by 31 operatives.

The Consolacion Police Station followed with a total of P445,386 cash incentives for its 28 police personnel, while the Moalboal Police Station received P389,166 cash reward shared by 37 personnel, including the augmented five Philippine Army members.

One of the awardees was Cordova anti-drug operative, PO2 Dennis Valiente, who was injured after he was shot in one of the operations. He was hit in the left arm and chest and had a fracture in the left thigh.

Former PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa visited him in the hospital last Aug. 22, 2017.

Valiente was off-duty that time but he was told that a drug suspect was spotted selling shabu. He agreed to serve as a decoy.

But drug suspect William Sumalinog tried to elude arrest. A chase occurred that ended in Sitio Alaska, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City where Valiente got hit during a shootout.

Law and order is one of the priorities of the administration of Davide and Vice Gov. Agnes A. Magpale under their Six-Key Development Agenda anchored toward their mantra: Kalambuan sa Matag Sugbuanon.

The other five priorities are health and social services; countryside development; education and technical vocational; environment protection, climate change; and infrastructure development, tourism and investment promotion. (Cebu Provincial Gov’t)
