Cabuyao City, Laguna -– A police intelligence officer was saved by the bulletproof vest he was wearing while pursuing and trading shots with a recalcitrant and armed illegal drug pusher on Tuesday evening.

In an interview with the Philippines News Agency (PNA), Cabuyao City chief of police Supt. Joseph Bayan said that the notorious illegal drug pusher identified as Ricardo Andaya was the subject of the buy-bust operation by city operatives in NIA Road, Banay-Banay Village in this city.

As the lawmen were about to close the illegal drug deal, the suspect Andaya sensed that the poseur buyer he was dealing with was an undercover cop.

Andaya suddenly pulled his gun and fired at the operative hitting him by the chest. This prompted the police officer and his team of operatives to retaliate and killed the drug suspect.

The undercover cop, however, narrowly escaped death from the armed encounter because of the bullet proof vest he wore during the operation.

Andaya was declared dead on the spot due to gunshot wounds in his body.

Cabuyao police recovered from the slain suspect a .375 cal. revolver and some sachet with suspected “shabu.” (PNA) RMA/SEP/ROBERT MAICO/EDS
