Building a Castle of Love

Published

on

“Overtime, I’ve been building a castle of love.” Sounds familiar? It actually is. This is the first line of the song “Overjoyed” by the one and only Stevie Wonder.

More than the wonder of its maker, I love this song because of its meaning — love.

What is love, then? Some say, “Love is for the benefit of others at the expense of one’s self.” Others believed that “Love covers a multitude of sins.” Most say, “Love is the fuel that runs our engines.”

With different viewpoints, we can gather different answers.  Answers that best fits our emotional realization of what it really is. Now, what is it really for me? In what way have I made it constructive?

Tough question!  Why did I write this blog anyways? I have learned that by asking ourselves the most difficult questions, we will eventually find the right answers (if what we have are not) and thereby we learn ourselves better, turn out to be a better man, a man of purpose and meaning.

Honestly, I cannot have a definite answer, not just yet. For I live now in the world that is progressing and that I must humbly say, I am a work in progress as well.  However, after much careful reflection, more than the “what and how,” I ask myself why?

It is because, first, I was loved.

No one has ever displayed the highest form of love except Jesus– the epitome of love itself.  Who by the will of his Father came down to save us from the sins of our forefathers. What greater love could there be?

Second, I am commanded to love.

Someone asked Him, “Master, what is the greatest commandment?”

Jesus answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with your entire mind, with all your soul, with all your strength. And Love your neighbors as you love yourself.”

Jesus answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with your entire mind, with all your soul, with all your strength. And Love your neighbors as you love yourself.”

Matthew 22:29-31

What a realization!  Someone said deal with the why’s in life and the how’s will follow.  It truly will and it gives us the confidence that we can build that castle of love, overtime.

What if time is not given us?

It is either we build it now or never. I must say we build it now, because now is the only time we have.
