Britain’s Unpredictable General Election Begins

London (PNA/Xinhua) — Tens of millions of Britons flocked to polling stations Thursday to decide who will become their next prime minister in a highly unpredictable general election.

A total of 650 seats in Britain’s House of Commons are up for grabs, with nearly 50 million people registered to vote.

Polling stations have been set up in schools, libraries, cafes, and community centers to ensure their accessibility to local residents.

Registered voters are asked to cast their ballots between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. local time on Thursday at one of the polling stations.

The final outcome of the general election is expected on Friday, but results from individual constituencies may start coming out by around midnight.

Following an intense campaign season in the past month, both the Conservatives and the Labor Party, the country’s two main political parties, are vying to win the battle to No. 10 Downing Street.

Recent opinion polls show that the Conservatives and the Labor Party have been neck and neck in support. The Scottish National Party (SNP) and the Eurosceptic UK Independence Party (UKIP) are also expected to win more seats in the parliament, making the general election the most unpredictable in a generation.
