At least four people were killed when Clarin Bridge in Loay Bohol collapsed last April 27, 2022.

Three locals and a male Austrian national who came to Bohol for a honeymoon died when the bridge collapsed. 20 were also injured during the collapse.

The said bridge collapsed around 4 pm and put over 12 vehicles underwater, while authorities are yet to confirm three other vehicles submerged in the river.

According to the Chief Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), Anthony Damalerio that overloading caused the old bridge to collapse.

The bridge was built in the 1970s and was affected by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake last 2013. It was supposed to be replaced in a few days by the newly built bridge, but sadly the old bridge collapsed before the turnover happened.

Bohol Provincial Governor Arthur Yap said that the provincial government of Bohol is ready to give their full financial support to the families of the four casualties.

As for the Austrian national who also died, the provincial government of Bohol already contacted the Austrian embassy for the repatriation of his remains. (ASC)
