A newly elected barangay councilor of brgy. Kalunasan, Cebu City was shot point-blank by an armed man on Tuesday, June 10, 2018.

In a CCTV footage of the Kalunasan Barangay Hall shared by Sunstar, at around 2 o’clock in the afternoon, a man wearing a black hoodie and blue cap shot Roel Mabano, a newly elected barangay councilor of barangay Kalunasan. Mabano was talking to someone when the gunman walked up to him, aimed, and fired his gun at Mabano. Mabano tried to escape the gunman but unfortunately he sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The gunman then fled while aiming his gun at the people who were at the hall after he shot the barangay councilor.

Mabano was a retired police officer and was last assigned to Mindanao before he ran for a spot in the barangay council in the last barangay elections.

Before the shooting of barangay councilor Roel Mabano, an armed man who was looking for Archbishop Jose Palma was also shot dead by the police inside the Archbishop’s residence. (Aljun Cainghog)
