Bank of the Philippine Islands President and CEO Cezar P. Consing on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 was given The Asian Banker CEO Leadership Achievement Award for the Philippines for achievements in the period from January 2013 to December 2015. Bank of the Philippine Islands was also recognized by The Asian Banker as The Best Managed Bank in the Philippines.

The Asian Banker CEO Leadership Achievement Award is considered the most prestigious award for individual achievement in the banking industry in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions. It is given only once every three years to give time to the leadership of banks to demonstrate their ability to translate strategy into execution.

The rigorous selection process takes stock of the financial performance of the bank, measuring the stated vision and strategy against actual achievements, the feedback of staff, customers, investors and the industry through various surveys, a review of the management team and the validation of an experienced regional council of advisors.

Strength of a singular vision. “Businesses and their leaders are shaped by a long-term vision that is demonstrated not just by statements, but also through the long-term development of a strategic business plan that defines the business. We look at statements made by the leader and the execution that supports those statements,” noted The Asian Banker in relation to its selection criteria.

In recognizing Mr. Consing’s achievement, The Asian Banker likewise recognized the team of professional bankers who have supported the BPI chief in the management of the bank these past three years. “Sustainable businesses cannot only be built around individuals, but the strength of a team following a singular vision that can react to incidents as a single entity. We look at the people around the leader, their commitment levels and sense of ownership of the businesses and operations entrusted
to them,” The Asian Banker said.

In the past few years, BPI has sharpened its organization along client-, product- and infrastructure-focused teams, and injected new talent and cross-posted even at senior levels.

Commitment to inclusive growth. “This recognition comes to BPI at a very auspicious time. Extending the benefits of a growing economy to a majority of Filipinos is high on the agenda of the incoming administration,” says Mr. Consing.

“As a financial institution, we are committed to inclusive growth and investing in the future of the Philippines, focusing on the country’s biggest sustainable challenges. BPI is grateful for the recognition The Asian Banker has bestowed on our 165-year-old bank, our 165-year-old brand,” says Mr. Consing.
