Bohol, Cebu CLEs Underwent Communications Training

Coastal law enforcers (CLEs) from Cebu and Bohol underwent communications and media training to commemorate World Fish Conservation Week.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-7) initiated the training with the support of the United States Agency International Development (USAID) under the ECOFISH project.

There were 39 participants from the Fisheries Management, Regulatory and Enforcement Division (FMRED) of BFAR-Central Visayas, as well as information officers, Sangguiang Bayan members, and heads of Bantay Dagat groups from municipalities along the Danajon Reef in Bohol province.

Those from Bohol are from the towns of Inabanga, Bien Unido, Buenavista,  Tubigon, Clarin, Buenavsta, Getafe, Talibon, Trinidad and Ubay.

The objective of the event is to enable the coastal law enforcers to know how to report to the public and utilize the media what they are doing in their respective localities as part of transparency.

The speakers include former and current mainstream media practitioners and communication authorities from the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

The Freeman editor John Destacamento was invited as resource person to discuss “Basic News Writing”.

BFAR-7 Director Andres Bojos said that FMRED is one of the most active enforcement bodies in the country but little is known about their activities by the public.

“Letting people know who they are and what they do increases transparency and
accountability in fishery law enforcement while giving the community the opportunity to participate in field enforcement through reporting of violations,” he said. (rmn/fcc/PIA7-Cebu)
