‘Be Healthy Always’ Movement Urges Filipinos to Take a Proactive Role in Health Care

The Medical City (TMC) in Pasig City launched on Thursday a nationwide movement which aims to empower Filipinos to take a more proactive role in caring for their health by ensuring regular medical check-ups.

In lieu of its advocacy to advance health care in the country, TMC initiated the “Be Healthy Always” movement which promotes the power of prevention and encourages Filipinos to take charge of their health and well-being by undertaking regular check-ups.

“Prevention should be integrated into all aspects of our lives. The overarching goal of this movement is to increase the number of Filipinos who are healthy at every stage of their life,” said Dr. Alfredo Bengzon, President and Chief Executive Officer of TMC.

At the campaign kick-off, TMC’s experts underscored that the ideal prevention-approach does not only involve making healthy lifestyle choices, but also undergoing annual check-ups for early and proactive detection, diagnosis, and appropriate management of conditions and illnesses.

Free check-ups in TriNoma Mall

To advocate the campaign to the public, TMC will be hosting “Be Healthy Always: Get Checked!” from Oct. 10 to 11 at the ground floor of TriNoma Mall in Quezon City which will give public access to free medical consultations.

Specific hubs will be available for the following areas: cardiology, ophthalmology, women’s health, and pediatric health. Primary care physicians will likewise be present to recommend the appropriate screening texts.

”Health is so central to human life and to human development. And yet, as centered as it is, there are a lot of misunderstandings and misconceptions about health that translate into inappropriate health services (which eventually lead to) expensive health care,” Dr. Bengzon said.

To address this issue, the event will also feature health talks with TMC’s experts geared at educating attendees on common myths surrounding certain diseases, other facets of health, as well as promote a well-rounded lifestyle through various activities with the event’s health partners.

This is to ensure that health will be properly understood, properly acted upon, properly accessed, and properly delivered, the TMC president said.

“Through the Be Healthy Always movement, we want to inspire and push every Filipino to start taking an active role in caring for their health, to see families live life to its fullest and as burden-free as possible,” Dr. Bengzon added.

The event at the TriNoma mall will serve as a jumpstart to this year-long campaign leading up to the 50th anniversary of TMC in 2017.

No necessary documents or requirements are needed to participate in the “Be Healthy Always: Get Checked!” event.
