A P5 million peso dike and diversion road in Barili, funded from the development fund of Governor Hilario P. Davide III were inaugurated last June 26.

The projects are located in Barangays Santa Ana and Nasipit.

Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, who attended the activity said she was thankful that the town made ceremonial inaugurations of the projects so that the public would know.

“Kamo nga molupyo dinhi saksi kamo sa gibuhat sa gobyerno (You who live here are witnesses of the government’s effort), said the vice governor.

She also praised Mayor Teresito Mariñas for implementing the project, which helped prevent the flooding that could have been caused by typhoon Seniang hit southern Cebu last year.

Earlier, Vice Governor Magpale also attended the Barangay Legal Outreach Program activities initiated by the Provincial Legal Office.

Mariñas said at least Php 50 million was already spent for the construction of Santa Ana River dike. This was constructed phase by phase and scattered through different critical sections of the river.

The mayor said the dike prevented the water from digging the river banks. The Santa Ana River almost overflowed and flooded the town of Barili when Seniang hit southern Cebu last December.

The province also handed out financial assistance early this month to the typhoon victims, whose houses were wiped out or partially damaged by Typhoon Seniang.

Barili officials also formally inaugurated the newly-paved diversion road in Barangay Nasipit.

The diversion road was constructed as certain portion of the Bolocboloc-Nasipit provincial road collapsed after continuous and heavy rains caused by Seniang.

The provincial government, through its engineering office, paved the road while the municipality of Barili negotiated the road right of way with lot owner Scholastica Ouano.
