Assumption of Function Confuses City Dad

Talisay City Councilor Val Ylanan on Tuesday expressed his bewilderment over his appointments which were reportedly carried out by the mayor’s son, John Yre Delos Reyes.

In his privilege speech during its regular session, Ylanan said he is confused as to his appointed position which was reportedly assumed by the mayor’s son. “I am confused,” Ylanan said. Ylanan, in an interview with the media, revealed that Mayor Johnny Delos Reyes has appointed him as administrator of Economic Zoning and Planning, Urban Planning Management and Infrastructure Management. The councilor has also showed before the council three executive orders signed by Mayor Delos Reyes last July 8, shortly after he assumed post as city mayor.

Ylanan, who was allied with Delos Reyes last election, said he learned that Delos Reyes’ son, John Yre, who is the city administrator, is functioning all the tasks which are supposedly his. Ylanan said he does not mind ‘if the young Delos Reyes wants to do the job’, adding he only wants to “put in on record” that he was appointed by the mayor to do those tasks, in case the city administrator’s actions will be questioned later on.

Ylanan, however, did not mentioned a conflict between the mayor and his allies in the council contrary to rumors circulating last week. Allegedly, there are reports saying Delos Reyes distanced himself from his running mate Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante, as the latter was reportedly planning a coup against him that would lead to his suspension, thereby making Villarante as the next mayor.

Reports added the three allied councilors-Ylanan, Danny Caballero and Alvin Diaz—have reportedly sided with Villarante so that when the vice mayor becomes the mayor, one of them assumes the vice mayor’s post.
