Manila (PNA) — President Benigno S. Aquino III has appointed Atty. Juan Andres D. Bautista as the new chairman of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Malacanang said Monday.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said Bautista, who replaced retired Sixto Brillantes Jr., would serve as the head of poll body until Feb. 2, 2022

Bautista was the chairman of Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) before his appointment.

Valte said President Aquino also named Rowena Amelia V. Guanzon and Sheriff M. Abas as new Comelec commissioners whose terms would also expire on Feb. 2, 2022.

Guanzon is the former commissioner of the Commission on Audit (COA), while Abas was the chairman of Cotabato-based Bangsamoro Business Club’s board of trustees before their appointments. They replaced retired Lucenito Tagle and Elias Yusoph.

Valte said all three appointments were signed April 28, 2015. (PNA) JBP/LDV
