A Monthly Fair Trade ‘Tianggihan’

With the success of ‘Tianggihan sa Fair Trade Shop Cebu’ last May 11, the Southern Partners Fair Trade Center (SPFTC) decides to hold a similar activity every month.

The Tianggihan showcased stalls with different products made by fair trade producers including farming communities and urban poor communities; with the goal of encouraging people to support efforts that give opportunities to the disadvantaged.

It was held from 9 am to 7 pm, at the Parking lot of Martinez Building Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City.

“Last Saturday’s tianggihan was to celebrate world fair trade day, and to campaign for the Social Enterprise Bill,” said Geraldine Labradores, Managing Director of SPFTC.

Fair Trade, promoted by the Social Enterprise Bill, is a trading system based on fairness, dignity, and respect in all levels of operations. The people, environment, and profit are equally important in the workplace.

“Seeing the success of tianggihan, we have decided to have it every month. We hope that people would still continue to patronize the products we are selling,” Labradores added.

Their plan is to have a similar set-up to the tianggihan wherein different fair trade producers can come to sell their products.
