DOTr to Solve New Mactan-Cebu International Airport Flooding Problem

Following the viral social media post that showed flooding inside the New Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 2, Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said in a Palace press briefing that they will look into the problem where the MCIA floods during heavy rain.

The airport operator, GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation apologized to the inconvenienced passengers and said to implement all possible remedies to control the flooding.

GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation said that the overflow of water in the airport is caused by clogged drainages outside the terminal.
“We apologize to all passengers for the inconvenience caused by the overflow of rainwater at the departure level link-bridge at MCIA Terminal 2. We are already taking corrective measures to rectify the situation,” Megawide said in a statement.
The new MCIA terminal 2 is said to help MCIA to accommodate 12.2 million passengers per year and is also designed to host international flights..
Earlier this year, President Rodrigo Duterte inaugurated the new MCIA terminal 2 in June 7, 2018 and went operational on July 1, 2018. (Aljun Cainghog)
